Future of magazines

Magazines, print pages filled with different kinds of topics, have been around since the 1700s. It was not until the emergence of the mass media in the late 1900s and early 20th century that print magazine sales started to decrease. People are using social media more than buying print magazines from stores to receive the same sort of content (eg: a fashion you tube channel gives the same info and content as a fashion magazine, sometimes better to connect with as its moving video and audio). Another reason why the mass media causes print magazine sales to decrease is because it is easily accessible and a lot of the time free. If you want to read a magazine, you will need to leave your house and get up and buy one. Whereas, if you have an internet connection or data you can access content, news etc anywhere and anytime.
As the younger demographic have grown up in a time of social media and the increase of the mass media, they are not really attracted to print copies of news or information as they can access all that online. As a result, very few of the younger audience are attracted to buying print magazines.
To respond to this, the magazine industry has introduced online magazine subscriptions (that can be monthly or weekly) that people subscribe to and join mailing lists, to receive weekly or monthly edition of a magazine. This allows for electronic audience involvement to move with the times of technology and allows for people who are not print fans to still experience the benefits of a good magazine. An example is Stack, created by Steven Watson that transfers the lucky-dip principle of the vegetable box to to the delivery of independent magazines. It offers the audience the ability to "discover a different independent magazine every month". If more magazine like this come out, I do believe that the future of magazines is not completely doomed, but can still continue and definitely grow in terms of audience.
