Shortlist Magazine is a free weekly magazine published in London that is based around Men's lifestyle and promotes masculine values. It was launched in 2007. It is published by its company called Shortlist Media Ltd. Shortlists audience is mainly professional males "building their careers and relationships". Shortlist is an independent company that is turning conglomerate. Shortlist is a global magazine that features both overseas and in the UK. Biggest selling magazine in the UK (roughly half a million circulation per week). The women's shortlist magazine is called stylist.



The Big Issue is a street newspaper that was founded by John Bird and Gordon Roddick. It was founded in 1991 September. It is an independent company. It is not a conglomerate. The big issue is  a global magazine. It has a wide range of context.  It is sold by homeless people and the profits got to homeless shelters. The vendor (the person selling) gets 50% of the profits. They have the big issue foundation.

Bauer media group is European based multi-platform media company that manages more than 600 magazines, over 400 digital products and 50 radio and television stations around the world. This company produce Bauer magazines and other magazines like "Simply you" magazine. Bauer media is a conglomerate. It is also a global company. The company is based in Germany.





Dennis is an independent publisher founded in 1974. They publish car buying and Auto express. The owner is Felix Dennis. It is based around Men's lifestyles. I know that Dennis publishing has collaborated with Minecraft to produce Minecraft world magazine that comes around every 4 weeks (cross-media). Dennis publishing has relationships with 50 companies in over 40 countries and now have over 100 contracts running across the world.

- Shelter is a charity for homelessness - close up-eye level, direct address - Direct Address creates a strong connection between the audience and and the person in the shot (equal connection) - Unusual placement of caption on top of the face, it is also transparents. 1 Theoretical perspective to Big Issue cover

        Dominant and Patriarchal Ideologies about women: Weak, dependent, passive, housewives, kitchen chained, not career driven, sex objects etc. The oppositional reading that the Big issue holds: strong, driven, has her won mind, not presented in a sexually provocative way, not domesticated etc. Another Dominant/patriarchal Ideology: Men can't be feminists and understand emotional topics. The Big Issue's reading: Men can understand and join the movement for equal gender rights, by being feminists. "Pink stinks" suggests that the Big issue think that gender directed clothes and the socialization of children from young to conform to the idea of gender roles is wrong. They are using this statement as a call to action. The fact that the women on the cover is a black women, shows the diversity in a postmodern society.
