Evaluation of whether the radio 1 breakfast show fulfills the BBC's remit

Overall, I do believe that the radio 1 breakfast show is fulfilling the BBC's remit. It sustains citizenship and civil society, promotes education and learning, stimulates creativity and cultural excellence, represents the UK, its nations, regions and communities, brings the UK to the world and the world to the UK and also emerges communications. An example of when they sustain citizenship and civil society is when they present the news in an unbiased and neutral tone. This shows that they do not want to cause an outrage or force their audience to conform to a certain belief or way of life, they want to allow people to chose their beliefs about a topic and remain open minded. An example of when they promoted education and learning is when they educate viewers on the current stories in the world of politics. This keeps the viewers updated with what is going on and helps them engage more closely with the world around them. An example of when the stimulate creativity and cultural excellence is when they praise UK celebrities like Wayne Rooney and UK TV shows like strictly come dancing. This is showing admiration and praise for cultural excellence and creativity within the UK. An example of when they represented the UK, its nations, regions and communities is when they promoted British music and artists. This shows that they have represented the UK through musicians and portrayed the UK as a positive and musically-creative place. An example of where they have brought the world to the UK and the UK to the world is when they play music from around the world and promote diversity in music in the UK. This blurs the lines between the UK and the rest of the world and encourages cultural appreciation of other cultures within the British music. An example of where they have emerged communications is when they talk about children in need. This promotes the amazing cause and encourages people to donate to something that can change the UK.

- Shelter is a charity for homelessness - close up-eye level, direct address - Direct Address creates a strong connection between the audience and and the person in the shot (equal connection) - Unusual placement of caption on top of the face, it is also transparents.         Dominant and Patriarchal Ideologies about women: Weak, dependent, passive, housewives, kitchen chained, not career driven, sex objects etc. The oppositional reading that the Big issue holds: strong, driven, has her won mind, not presented in a sexually provocative way, not domesticated etc. Another Dominant/patriarchal Ideology: Men can't be feminists and understand emotional topics. The Big Issue's reading: Men can understand and join the movement for equal gender rights, by being feminists. "Pink stinks" suggests that the Big issue think that gender directed clothes and the socialization of children from young to conform to the idea of gender roles is wrong.
