Dominant and Patriarchal Ideologies about women: Weak, dependent, passive, housewives, kitchen chained, not career driven, sex objects etc. The oppositional reading that the Big issue holds: strong, driven, has her won mind, not presented in a sexually provocative way, not domesticated etc. Another Dominant/patriarchal Ideology: Men can't be feminists and understand emotional topics. The Big Issue's reading: Men can understand and join the movement for equal gender rights, by being feminists. "Pink stinks" suggests that the Big issue think that gender directed clothes and the socialization of children from young to conform to the idea of gender roles is wrong. They are using this statement as a call to action. The fact that the women on the cover is a black women, shows the diversity in a postmodern society.
