Induction:Task one

Today's induction task was to create an advert for either teabags or a broom. My group, which consisted of James and Daniyal, chose the teabags option.

We created a plan of what we wanted in our advert and when each aspect of our advert would take place. We wanted to create a cinematic atmosphere in our advert and really allow the tea to speak for itself. We decided to plan to take several shots of the making of a cup of tea, really drawing attention to the part when a teabag touches the water, the herbs infuse the water and the pretty swirls of colour that appear before the water goes brown. This allows the audience to see the tea as a beautiful thing. We also want to include a mini role-play which includes a man who is feeling not so confident, depressed and is looking ragged in appearance: he drinks the cup of tea and then he appears in a nice suit, is looking more confident and is generally much more of a gentleman. The idea is that the tea gave the man the confidence and happiness booster. This is a comical but effective way of really portraying the tea in a positive way.


We are also going to include music (no lyrics just melodies) to our advert. To conclude, at the end of the lesson we practiced different ways we could shoot the intro of just the teabag box.

Shelter Advert YEAR 2

- Shelter is a charity for homelessness - close up-eye level, direct address - Direct Address creates a strong connection between the audience and and the person in the shot (equal connection) - Unusual placement of caption on top of the face, it is also transparents. 1 Theoretical perspective to Big Issue cover

        Dominant and Patriarchal Ideologies about women: Weak, dependent, passive, housewives, kitchen chained, not career driven, sex objects etc. The oppositional reading that the Big issue holds: strong, driven, has her won mind, not presented in a sexually provocative way, not domesticated etc. Another Dominant/patriarchal Ideology: Men can't be feminists and understand emotional topics. The Big Issue's reading: Men can understand and join the movement for equal gender rights, by being feminists. "Pink stinks" suggests that the Big issue think that gender directed clothes and the socialization of children from young to conform to the idea of gender roles is wrong. They are using this statement as a call to action. The fact that the women on the cover is a black women, shows the diversity in a postmodern society.
