Advertising and gender

Image
I am analyzing two print adverts for perfume. One of them is the Victoria secrets very sexy temptation perfume and the other is the Avril Lavigne Black start perfume They both present the female gender in two different ways. One conforms to society's patriarchal and stereotypical views on the role of women and the norm of how women are presented in the media, however the other challenges those stereotypes and conveys women in an opposing perspective. Drawing on the two titles firstly, it is clear that the Victoria secrets perfume print advert sexualizes Women and objectifies them using sexual language. 'very sexy temptation' connotes sexual pleasure and provocation. This gives the message that women are almost 'objects' centered around sexual activity and that women should present themselves in a way that makes them 'tempting' and 'unable to resist'. This is degrading as it conforms to a patriarchal society's views that women are basicall...

Advertising

• W hat are the main challenges faced by the    advertising industry? The main challenges faced by the advertising industry today is advertising products to an audience without putting them off and making them not want to pay attention to the adverts. Another challenge is that adverts are no longer eye catching and interesting to the audience, so a lot of people view them as boring and frustrating to watch. Native advertising is advertising in disguise. People watch things that appear as though they are stories, short films, videos or TV programmes, when really they are promoting a product or service. Branded content is when companies use vehicles like films and TV programmes to advertise their products. It is the placement of the product in the ...

Induction:Task one

Image
Today's induction task was to create an advert for either teabags or a broom. My group, which consisted of James and Daniyal, chose the teabags option.  We created a plan of what we wanted in our advert and when each aspect of our advert would take place. We wanted to create a cinematic atmosphere in our advert and really allow the tea to speak for itself. We decided to plan to take several shots of the making of a cup of tea, really drawing attention to the part when a teabag touches the water, the herbs infuse the water and the pretty swirls of colour that appear before the water goes brown. This allows the audience to see the tea as a beautiful thing. We also want to include a mini role-play which includes a man who is feeling not so confident, depressed and is looking ragged in appearance: he drinks the cup of tea and then he appears in a nice suit, is looking more confident and is generally much more of a gentleman. The idea is that the tea gave the man the confidence an...
